Frequently Asked Questions
What is composite decking?
Composite decking is made from a combination of polymer and wood fibres and is manufactured to look like real wood decking. The ingredients are put together to form a material that is denser, stronger and heavier than wood.
How long does composite decking last?
Composite decking is well known for it’s long life span and durability. Since the polymer protects the wood fibres from the elements, composite decking is not prone to rotting, decay or termite damage. It has a 25 year guarantee.
Does composite decking require maintenance?
It requires minimal maintenance. Regularly clear off any debris like leaves, dirt and dust. Give your deck a more thorough clean at least twice a year using just a brush and a hose. Composite decking does not require staining, waterproofing or sealing.
Can composite decking be installed over existing joists/framing?
Yes it can be installed over an existing substructure that is free of any damage or decay and in a good workable condition.
The joists must be spaced correctly and have an unobstructed airflow under 50% of the deck.
Composite decking Vs. Wood Decking.
Composite decking may initially be more expensive than wood decking, but the initial expense will save a lot of money in maintenance in the long run. Composite decking will not rot, splinter, fade or require maintenance. Eco Deck also has embossed wood grain which makes it slip resistant.
